Week 25 – Market Your Website

Now that you have built and tested your website, I would like you to market it. Let’s say that your budget is NOK 10 000 (or 1800 $ US). Please do the following:

  1. Do some research on what advertising costs. You could for instance contact your local newspaper, print shop and other websites.
  2. Make a detailed list of how you would market your website. Remember to keep your budget in mind.
  3. What if you had double the budget? Come up with a second marketing strategy, this time with NOK 20 000 at your disposal. (3600 $ US)
  4. Come up with a viral idea. It doesn’t have to be a video; it can be guys dancing at the airport in gorilla suits. You can use ANYTHING that is at your disposal. Be creative!

1.

Blogs, social media, magazines, printing materials.

2.

– Contact similar websites from couple of places in the world to put a link to my website on theirs, then I would share theirs on my – 0 NOK.

– Share with my friends and family and ask them to share it with their friends and families – 0 NOK.

– Create accounts on social media, such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to promote the page by writing posts connected to it – 0 NOK.
– Social media – I would invest in Facebook advertising. Campaign would last 8 weeks, and its cost would be 3ooo NOK.
It would appear on profiles of people interested in traveling, mountains, skiing, nature, active vacation, family vacation, etc..

– Flyers – 10.000 pcs – 3.600 NOK.
I would design flyers which would encourage viewers to visit my website. I would leave them at travel agencies, sport shops, shopping centre, and other public places where potential viewers would go. Possibly leave them at receptions of hotels in tourist places.
– Magazines – small add in a travel magazine – 3.400 NOK.

Print website address on pen and give it away – order it in another country, then it is a couple of times cheaper.

I would create a Youtube account with series of short videos which would represent the location from my website.
Then I would post it in social media, shared with friends and ask them to share it for me.
If I would have some money to spend on it, I would also pay Youtube, so this account would be promoted.
